Bob Meade Interview

Adam Banton (L) and Bob Meade (R) at the
S-One Helmet Booth at the Interbike Tradeshow 2012.

"The Lifer Helmet RULES!" - Bob Meade

Name: Bob Meade
Age: 23
How many years have you been riding?
I’ve been riding ever since I could walk, but it wasn’t until 2004 when I got my first legit bike and started going to Chenga World Skatepark. I feel like that changed everything about riding for me. Instead of jumping off curbs, I could actually ride legit ramps. Which definitely helped. It changed my riding in a good way.
What made you start riding?:
I was never into team sports, and riding just seemed like the perfect fit.
There was nothing that was really wrong about riding. There were no rules, you could do whatever you wanted, ride how ever you wanted. There was way more freedom in it. And it just seemed like there was always a new thing to do, and I really liked that feeling.
How long have you been working at Chenga ?
I started coming out in 2004, after I saved up and bought my first legit bike from the park, they hooked me up with a membership and some free days. I started coming around an, it was basically like my second home for a long time. Eventually they just got to know me enough and I started to try to help out, even if it was just to clean up at the end of the night. They let me start doing more and more work around the park, and in exchange they would help me out, if it was just hooking me up with parts for cheaper or giving me some free days or something, they were always cool about that.  I just helped out enough that I eventually found myself running the park.
We met you through Adam Banton. How do you know Adam?
First time I met Adam he was in town for shows. I got the chance to go on a couple road trips with him and had a really great time. It's always awesome meeting someone who's riding I've looked up to for years. He road the origional Chenga, which I never had the chance to, and it's defiantly cool to hear some of his stories from that park.
What made you decide to wear a helmet full time?
The park made that choice for me, and that's what I have fun riding, so it's not even a question. I even started knocking myself out a bunch, my friend Adam Ghannoum even bought me a full face and threatened not to ride with me if I didn't wear it.
What do you like about the S-ONE helmet?
Well I haven't woken up at the bottom of a ramp yet in one of those, so I think they are doing their job. The Lifer helmet rules!
Anything else you’d like to share?
As I did this interview, I am actually on my way to do shows with a friend of mine. He called me at last minute and was like, “dude I need somebody else for the show, ” and my shoulder is not one hundred percent better yet. I had this gnarly separation about two months ago, and haven’t even touched my bike since. So I hope this goes all right. I definitely want to thank S-ONE helmets for keeping me safe and hooking me up with helmets and ankle braces, I really appreciate that. I just can’t wait to start riding again. I’m definitely psyched to feel pedals under my feet. Just ride, film some more stuff, go on as many trips and basically just get out of Ohio and try to go and do as much as I can, see as much as I can, while I’m riding.
